  • Automatically through our app and website (usage logs, device information, cookies).
  • From your NFC card interactions with transport operators on campus.

5.

We use your personal data to:

  • Create and manage your UNIGOO account.
  • Process payments and manage your digital wallet.
  • Enable transit payments via NFC card or app.

  • Legal obligation: Compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Consent: Marketing communications and optional data sharing.
7.

Consent

Where we rely on your consent to process personal data, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. To withdraw consent, contact us using the details in Section 27 or manage your preferences within the UNIGOO app.

8.

Wallet, Payment, and Transaction Data

Your digital wallet balance and all transaction records are stored securely on our systems. We retain transaction records for a minimum of five (5) years to comply with financial recordkeeping obligations. Wallet funding is processed through third-party payment providers; we do not store full card or bank account numbers. We only retain tokenised references provided by payment processors.

9.

NFC Card Information

Your UNIGOO NFC card is linked to your account and carries a unique card identifier. Each tap generates a transit event record including the card ID, route, operator, and timestamp. This data is used to process your fare payment and maintain your transaction history. Physical card data is never stored in plain text.

10.

Location Information

We may collect approximate location data when you use campus transit features to show nearby stops and routes. Precise background location tracking is not performed unless you expressly enable it for a specific feature. You can withdraw location permissions at any time through your device settings.

11.

Device and Technical Information

We automatically collect certain technical information to operate and improve UNIGOO, including device identifiers, app version, operating system, crash reports, and network connection type. This information is used for diagnostics, security, and product development.

12.

Marketing Communications

We will send you marketing emails or push notifications only where you have given explicit consent. You may opt out at any time by clicking "unsubscribe" in any marketing email or by adjusting notification preferences in the app. Opting out of marketing does not affect transactional messages such as receipts or security alerts.

13.

Cookies

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences, measure traffic, and improve your experience. Essential cookies are required for core functionality and cannot be disabled. Analytics and preference cookies can be managed through our cookie settings. By continuing to use our website, you consent to the use of essential cookies.

14.

Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share your data with:

  • Transport operators on your campus, to process fares and resolve disputes.
  • Payment processors, to fund or debit your wallet.
  • Cloud and infrastructure providers, to host and operate our platform.
  • Your university, where required by agreement or law.
  • Law enforcement or regulators, where legally required.

All third parties who receive your data are required to handle it in accordance with applicable data protection law and our data processing agreements.

15.

International Data Transfers

Some of our service providers may process data outside Nigeria or your country of residence. Where this occurs, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including standard contractual clauses or equivalent protections, to maintain the same level of data protection as required under applicable law.

16.

Data Security

We implement technical and organisational security measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, alteration, or disclosure. These include encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, regular security reviews, and incident response procedures. No system is completely secure; if you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

17.

Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active and for a period thereafter as required by law or legitimate business purposes. Transaction and financial records are retained for a minimum of five (5) years. After the applicable retention period, data is securely deleted or anonymised.

18.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:

  • Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.

20.

University and Institutional Data

Where UNIGOO operates under an agreement with your university, some of your academic data (such as enrolment status or student ID) may be shared with or received from the institution. This sharing is governed by a separate data sharing agreement. Your university's own privacy policy also applies to data held by them.

21.

Data Processors and Service Providers

We use trusted third-party service providers ("data processors") who process data on our behalf. These include cloud hosting providers, payment processors, email delivery services, and analytics platforms. All processors are bound by data processing agreements that require them to handle your data only as instructed by us and in compliance with applicable law.

22.

Children and Minors

UNIGOO services are intended for students who are at least 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16 without verifiable parental or guardian consent. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data without appropriate consent, please contact us and we will take steps to delete that information.

23.

Third-Party Websites

Our platform may contain links to third-party websites or services. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any third-party services you access. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external sites.

24.

Data About Other People

If you provide us with personal data about another person (such as a referral), you must ensure you have their permission to do so and that they are aware of how their data will be used in accordance with this policy.

25.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our services, business practices, or applicable law. We will notify you of material changes by email or through a notice in the app. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update. Continued use of UNIGOO after the effective date of a revised policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.

26.

Privacy Complaints

If you have a complaint about how we handle your personal data, please contact us first using the details in Section 27. We will investigate and respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the relevant data protection authority in your jurisdiction.
